Good idea. Bad engineering and extremely misleading marketing - advertized as "quiet". I rarely use it because it's so loud. Worse, the motor is so cheap, you can't put a standard ceiling fan speed controller on it to reduce the speed (reduce the noise) AND they don't make a lower speed replacement motor....Their "low and high" is just one loud fan on high speed or both loud fans on high speed. The engineering is bad enough, I won't buy from GAC Materials Corp again.

Thanks for you honest review. I am deciding between another model (HV1000) which is similar by another company. The HV1000 is more money, but looks like a much better product.

I purchased this fan, not from this site, a little over a year ago. Jeff is 100% accurate in his assesment, "Good idea, Bad engineering". I installed this fan for a customer and was literally embarassed at how loud it was, so much that I offered to remove it, return it, and install a different model at no charge. I am really excited about the idea of these fans, but am so diappointed in this model I am really hesitant to purchase any of the other similar style fans that cost more, for fear they will also be as loud or not function properly. This fans door also did not seal properly.

Compared to the two other whole house fans I've had over the years, this one isn't really louder. I've been told direct drive fans are quieter, but this is about the same so I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I love the insulated door so I don't have to stuff insulation in the winter and remove it in the spring into the fan space like my other ones. The remote is nice, but I can't seem to find an additional one anywhere so I can have one upstairs and one downstairs. Other than that, I'm happy with this purchase and have been for over a year.

You can purchase extra remotes directly from the vendor for $17 (I think that price is correct). The phone number is somewhere on the web.

This is a very well designed unit except it is very loud. I solved the problem by installing a KB ELECTRONICS MODEL KBWC-15K speed control for each motor. They cost me $10.00 each. You cannot use one speed control for the entire fan. Even at slower speeds the fan is powerful.
