Details
The The QC 2250 Moves 2285 CFM (U.S. Patent #7497774) is an innovative whole house fan that is not mounted to the ceiling but instead is suspended in the attic with straps from the roof rafters. It's connected to an attractive ceiling grill with a patented acoustical insulated flexible duct, thus eliminating all vibration, rattle and noise in the house. It is so quiet in operation that it can be installed in a bedroom or sleeping room but would be better located in the master bathroom, loft, or hallway.
This cleverly engineered system can be installed almost anywhere in a ceiling or vertical wall in less than 1/3 the time it takes to install a Typical whole house fan. It has a damper with insulated doors that prevents cold air intrusion in the wintertime.

Rough Opening - No Need to cut ANY joists.
By design all the QC fans are manufactured to fit in between any joist configurations 16 on center or larger. The most common joist configurations types are 16 on center and 24 on center.
No joist cutting is ever necessary with this product line. Most other fan manufacturers require a plenum/box frame to be built in the attic for the fan or grate vent to be installed onto which is very easy to do however you will have to purchase the proper size wood and it will increases the installation time about 30-45 min.
Why did you have to make an enlarged opening?
I must be missing something. If one dimension of the R.O. is 14 1/4" and you can get 14 1/2" between your studs, then why did you have to make the opening larger? It should just barely fit.
One of the major reasons I am looking at these types of fan is so I don't have to cut joists.
Great Fan Response !
Very Glad that you are very happy with your fan ! Its a great product!
Listed Below are the rough opening sizes as of 2011 for the QC Line up of fans.
The rough opening size varies depending on which model of QuietCool fan you
are installing:
QC-1500 rough opening is 14-1/4” x 14-1/4”
QC-2250 rough opening is 14-1/4” x 18-1/4”
QC-3200 rough opening is 14-1/4” x 30-1/4”
QC-4500 rough opening is 14-1/4” x 36-1/4”
By Design-the fans require NO joist cutting! You basically cut in the rough opening in a 16" on center or a 24" on center ceiling, then drop in the ceiling box into place! Fast and easy!
Great Fan
I have the QC-2250. First let me say that I had to create a larger attic opening as mine was only 16" O.C. or 14.5 inches of actual opening. If you do not want to enlarge your attic opening, go with the QC-1500 or the QC-3200 which should fit through the smaller opening.
It's very much quieter than a normal whole house fan and can be run constantly if installed away from your living area. Even then, when standing right under the vent, you don't have to raise your voice to be heard. I installed it about 10 feet down the hallway away from the living room in my 1,000 sqft house and while I can still hear it, it doesn't intrude on normal conversations and becomes completely unnoticeable when watching TV.
It really pulls a lot of air through the windows, but keep in mind that adjusting the window openings in different rooms determines how quickly it cools any one room. I think that this fan is sized just about right for my home.
It's safe to say that I am very happy with it.
At first we were considering
At first we were considering an Airscape 1.7 based on the fact that their web site said the fan would be suitable for homes up to 2500 sqft.
After talking to your staff regarding the National standard of complete air exchanges per hour we figured we would actually need 2-3 of their units to cool our home adequately. I found it confusing and expensive to move forward in our original direction. We took your advice and installed one of the two fans that you calculated that we would need . We got the 100.00 rebate from our electric company and have to say that we love this fan. We will purchase another fan next year and take advantage of the energy rebate again!
Thank you!
Fan was operating at Full capacity !
The single fan cooling solution was operating at full capacity. With the QC line up two fans would give you a high or low speed. NB-SuburbanFan
Was the 69db sound level
Was the 69db sound level recorded when the fan was on high?
Thanks.
2250 CFM Fan puts out 3170-3300 CFM in Chicago !
Here is an installation that was completed 6-9-09.
The home is approx. 1950 SQFT
After we completed the installation we tested the fans sound level and output.
The test unit was placed directly on the grill and recorded 3170-3300 CFMs
The sound level was recorded at 69 DB on the grill (with the fan on)
Attic has approx 3 SQFT of free air venting.
